Aarhus and Escazú: Guaranteeing Democratic Rights in Environmental Matters

Resumen
Aarhus and Escazú agreements share the same origin and some of their provisions. Both of them derive from the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, Principle 10, that aims to guarantee the right of access to information, the participation in decision-making and justice regarding environmental matters to everyone. In particular, Escazú contains other topics that reflect a greater link with environmental governance and its own evolution. We will focus on highlighting the similarities and differences between those instruments and the foreseen challenges.
