The Role of Climate Change in the Governance of Air and Maritime Transportation

Resumen
To mitigate climate change causes, the international community creates agreements that have an impact on the regulation of various economic activities—among which are maritime and air transportation. These activities are subject to standards and technical measures for compliance with climate regulations that need to be balanced with other objectives, such as facilitating trade. However, the aviation and shipping industries are dominated by a few private actors. As a result, there is the risk climate regulations will become a barrier to new companies and territories looking to access these subsectors, further concentrating these activities in the hands of a few and excluding large territories from the benefits of clean technologies.
