Abstract

In Latin America, a region with which there have traditionally been close ties of friendship and cultural identity, new forums for consultation and political dialogue have been established, as well as modern forms of cooperation and integration, mainly in the economic and commercial fields. In recent years, the number of regional trading systems and bilateral agreements has multiplied. An enormous range of new regional forums has emerged as a result of the growing interest in developing greater rapprochements in the area; numerous initiatives have been produced from these meetings that have resulted in specific economic cooperation schemes and extensive trade agreements. In addition, the mere fact that leaders of the countries of the region exchange experiences and share their vision of the future, represents a very important contribution to a better understanding and regional coordination and in some way to the promotion of social and economic well-being.
