Russia in the New Geopolitics of the Arctic

The effects of climate change in the Arctic have opened new challenges and opportunities for both the countries of the region and globally. This article reviews the evolution of Russian policy towards the Arctic and its role in light of the new possibilities of exploiting large energy and mineral reserves, the new maritime routes that may shorten time and costs and the repositioning in terms of security and possible new alliances. It also seeks to promote reflection on the impact that this new geopolitics may have for Mexico and on the pertinence of promoting an approach to the region.
