Abstract

The article analyzes Russia’s position on the authorization of the use of force by the UN Security Council. By reviewing its performance in the negotiations leading to the 2011 Libya intervention, it suggests that Russia opposes measures that undermine state sovereignty. This opposition is linked to its interest of counterbalancing the interventionist impulses of the West. It also analyzes the impact of such position in the discussions on Syria, Georgia and Ukraine/Crimea, and presents some elements to strengthen the dialogue between Russia and Mexico in the Security Council.
