México-Colombia Relations: From Empathy to the Strategic Association

Abstract

This article reviews the relationship between México and Colombia through this century, with the purpose of proving how the political configuration of Latin America influenced the narrowing bilateral relations. This, summed up to the multiple issues on the multilateral and global agenda promoted by both countries, and in addition to the common problems where both countries relate, have prepared the path for a strategic association. Finally, the article concludes that this partnership allows both countries to reach a shared leadership in the proposal of alternative ruling of the international regime in the fight against drugs.
