Abstract

I would like to anticipate that we are faced with a complex and difficult term, which unfolds in a series of concepts, each of which is capable of being represented by another word or formula, that is, it is quite atomized, as Verzijl has pointed out, and has protein phases. But, in addition, its essence sometimes takes on mystical overtones, provokes nationalist sentiments and inflames political rhetoric. I clarify that sovereignty, although in some cases it seems to have the same meaning in political doctrine as in international law, its constitutive elements acquire different profiles in both fields. In an essay I will try to limit myself to pointing out some of its characteristic notes to be able to contrast them with the notions that internationalists handle in the field of international law and draw some useful conclusions from it.
