Betting on the Chinese Behemoth and on Asia in the New Century

The irruption of China in Latin America has been one of the region´s defining factors in the new century. Yet, the Chinese boom came to a halt in 2014, in what some observers consider to be a turning point in Sino-lac relations. The purpose of this article is to examine the challenges this implies for the region. It does so by analyzing China´s “new normal” and the foreign policy that goes with it, as well as by evaluating the current state of Sino-lac links and the way forward in years to come.
