This article explores Octavio Paz’s views on Ancient India and its relationship to the cultures of Mesoamerica, based on the poet’s interest in archaeology, which he cultivated from an early age and later expounded in essays in which he unravels the origins and actualities of Mexican art, its transformations and influences, its continuities and discontinuities.
