Consular Protection of the Mexican Diaspora

Abstract
This article analyzes the relevance of consular protection as one of Mexico’s foreign policy priorities. It argues that consular protection is a necessary condition to guarantee the wellbeing of the Mexican diaspora. It also sustains that the Mexican experience is a good international practice that can be replicated by other Ministries of Foreign Affairs around the world. In its three sections, the article studies consular protection as a cornerstone of Mexico’s foreign policy; analyzes the most important strategies and actions implemented by Mexico in the area of consular protection, and, finally, presents the best practices derived from these actions, explaining how they can be replicated by other countries with similar migratory experiences.
