Given the importance of the Beijing Conference, the Matías Romero Institute for Diplomatic Studies decided to dedicate this issue of the Revista Mexicana de Política Exterior to analyze some of the main agreements adopted therein. The papers included here address some of the issues that were identified by the Beijing Conference as areas of priority concern: the existence of disparities and insufficiencies; unequal access to education, training, health and related services; the exercise of power; decision-making at all levels; lack of respect; insufficient promotion and protection of women's human rights; the violence to which it is subjected, among others.

These works have been prepared by people linked in their professional tasks with these issues who, in addition, were part of the Mexican delegation to the Beijing Conference. His vision of the achievements of the conference, the obstacles it faced, the advances and setbacks will give an accurate picture of what was achieved at the Fourth World Conference on Women. They also help to better understand why, in some cases, the Beijing agreements aroused strong reactions in several countries, including Mexico.
