The United Nations Organization celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The occasion seems propitious to delve into the analysis of the effects of the great international transformations of recent years on the agenda of priorities and the modalities of action of the highest international organization, as well as the role that the UN is playing in shaping the end-of-the-century international order. This issue of the Revista Mexicana de Política Exterior wishes to contribute to such reflection.
The UN has always occupied a priority place in Mexican foreign policy. Since the idea arose of creating a new international organization to replace the League of Nations, Mexico decided to participate decisively in its design and implementation to ensure that the new international organization promoted and defended principles of international coexistence that responded to the interests of the countries that, like ours, saw the need to achieve a world of peace, and of greater justice and development. In these five decades, Mexico's activity in the UN has shown the will of our country to achieve it; the Mexican contribution to the defense of the principles and the achievement of the objectives. of the San Francisco Charter is recognized both nationally and internationally. For this reason, this issue of the Revista Mexicana de Política Exterior is also, in some way, a tribute to the multilateral diplomatic work carried out by Mexico in these 50 years.
